Testimonial

Postby Dust Devil on Thu Nov 05, 2009 10:09 am

I'm sure that what I have to say has already been said 100's of times, but I don't think 1 more time will hurt!

I would consider myself an intermediate/advanced guitar player. Completely self taught, except for some tab lessons in the magazines that we've all read. However, I've noticed that like a lot of musicians, my playing reached a certain level and never progressed beyond that.

I've seen Doug's ads in those same magazines for years and to be completely honest, thought they were nothing more than some guy's attempt to make a quick buck off of young guys just picking up the instrument and not knowing any better. But I ran across the website and figured, "why not"? I could order one lesson, maybe learn a new scale or something and return it. I ordered the Level 4 DVD and waited.

First off, let me say that my DVD got to me in 4 days - that's 3 days sooner than the 7-14 days option.

Second, I can say that after 25 years of playing guitar, within 15 minutes of popping the DVD, I was learning new things. Doug had my fingers moving up and down the fret board in new ways that I never even thought of. 5 patterns of the Harmonic Minor scale? I knew only 2. Again - literally within 15 minutes of playing the DVD.

In fact, I would say that I actually need to go back and order Level 3 before I tackle Level 4 just to make sure I'm learning the right way.

I am completely pleased with the course so far and you know what? Scratch just ordering level 3 - I'm ordering the whole course. My youngest daughter has been bitten by the guitar bug and I'm going to give her the advantage that I skipped out on and starting her on Doug's course from the beginning.

If there's anyone reading this that's on the fence about ordering or thinks that what you are hearing isn't possible, remember, I ordered the first DVD fully expecting it to be a rip off and returning it. I can happily say that I was 100% dead wrong. Doug has put together a great program that any player of any level can learn from.

Thanks Doug!!!

First and foremost welcome to the forum from another guy from the 'Burgh (Go Stillers!) named Dave. You're right about how fast your order arrives. (I think Doug keeps the shipping department supplied with Red Bull and double espressos  )

Your experience is pretty much the same as mine. For years I blew off the Metal Method ads until I came across the website, watched Doug's presentation and was very impressed with his sincerity and the fact that he backed up his lessons with a money-back guarantee. I read through the descriptions of the various stages and decided Stage 3 was the best place for me to start. Learning the 5 positions of the pentatonic scale was one of the biggest eye-openers I've ever had--I look at the fretboard a lot differently than I ever had before.

I'm glad that your daughter is picking up on your enthusiasm. Maybe I'll see her tearing it up on stage a few years down the road, out-shredding all the guys, and making her dad proud.

Speaking of shredding. I highly recommend Michael Angelo Batio's Speed Kills series if you really want to build your chops and improve your technique.

I came from a piano background so the theory stuff made sense in the '92 version. With the newer version Doug actually relates it to a piano, making it even easier to grasp. It's really a great system.

Yes, there have been similar testimonials but I never get tired of hearing these stories. Thanks for posting. It also encourages others to take a chance on the course. By sharing your experience you influence others that might not have chosen to try out Metal Method. Thanks very much.

You are very welcome Doug! Again, I wholeheartedly recommend the course to anyone.

Here's another 100% true example for everyone. A bunch of my friends and I gathered over this past weekend just to hang out and jam. By using what little bit I've learned from the course so far, I noticed that when taking a solo, I was actually making note choices instead of just blindly zipping up and down the scale.

Now I'm not saying that I'm at a "Van Halen" level just yet (not even close!), but just having the knowledge of the 5 different pentatonic positions and the 5 different harmonic minor positions as shown in the course has taken my playing up a notch. I was able to change positions and was actually able to hear in my head what certain licks would sound like before I played them.

I'm really looking forward to the rest of the course!

Yes! This is why it's so important to really know your scales. Otherwise you are just mechanically playing through memorized patterns that don't have any musical meaning.
